The Minister of Agriculture, Nikos Kuyalis, met with representatives of a UAE fruit importing company, which he said wants to import from the island.

"This is the first of a series of meetings intended to open new markets for local agricultural producers," said Mr. Kuyalis after the meeting. He added that their aim is to establish long-term cooperation with the countries of the Gulf region in the export of citrus fruits, potatoes, vegetables and dairy products.

Mr. Kuyali also said to be preparing future meetings with Turkish producers and importing companies operating in the Gulf region.

The Russian embargo imposed on the EU will cause Cyprus around 13.5 million dollars in losses. Of these, 10.7 million dollars come from the export of citrus fruits.
