According to local media, it is the first of Chinese-made satellites for the mobile telecommunication system and it is a major part of the country's space information infrastructure.

The Tiantong-01 satellite was designed by the Academy of Space Technology of China and its ground service will be operated by China Telecom.

Official sources said that a mobile network with ground facilities will be established to provide services in China, the Middle East, Africa and other regions.

The satellite was launched from the Launching Center in Xichang, in southwestern China, on board of a Great Wall-3B carrying rocket.

Recently, the director of the National Space Administration of China, Xu Dazhe, said that the country plans to become a world aerospace power by 2030.

China will complete its aerospace projects by 2020, including manned space programs, moon probes, the satellite navigation system and the Gaofen satellite observation program, Xu underlined.
