This was reported Georgi Minchev of the Bulgarian-Russian Chamber of Commerce and a representative of the Bulgarian Association for Freight Forwarding, Transport and Logistics.

Another problem highlighted is the closure of many processing plants over the last 20 years.

"Processors are struggling, but each mostly looks to its own interests. Meanwhile, the global world is highly organised; we must learn to work in modern organisational forms," said Minchev.

He pointed out that a refrigerated truck is worth over 150 thousand euros, and producers of fruits and vegetables often do not know exactly if they'll be able to afford such an investment.

For his part, Tsvetan Tsekov, of AZPB, said that as a representative of the Association for 8-9 years he has taken part in many working groups for the development of fruit and vegetables.

"Problems remain unsolved and now over 90% of fruit and vegetables are imported. EU funds go to organisations and producer groups, so I hope that Bulgarian producers will realise that only these associations will help them overcome the market's challenges."
