Brazil hydrocarbons output hits new record at 4 million barrels per day

Hydrocarbons output in Brazil topped 4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day for the first time ever in January.

Oil and gas production increased 1.7% to 4.041 million boepd in January from a previous record of 3.973 million boepd in December 2019, according to the latest report from market regulator ANP.

Oil production was up 2% to 3.168 million barrels per day, while natural gas output rose 0.7% to 138.7 million cubic metres per day in January. Pre salt production accounted for 66.4% of the total.

The Lula field remained the country’s top producer, although output declined 2% in January to 1.329 million bpd. Meanwhile production in Buzios increased 7.2% to 601,700 bpd.
