Production and export   The Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders said:
The number of cars built for export grew by 2.9% in July, taking the number exported from the UK since 2010 past the 5 million mark. It's the highest number in any decade on record, with more than half of it left.

The SMMT said more than 130,000 cars were manufactured in the UK in July, a 2.8% rise on last year. There have now been 923,884 cars built in the UK in the first seven months of the year, 3.4% more than last year.

The SMMT believes car production will surpass 1972's record of 1.92 million cars by 2017.

SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes described passing the five million mark as "a major milestone and testament to the burgeoning reputation of UK automotive excellence and demand for British-made cars".
