Typhoon Damrey destroys 116,000 homes, kills 49 in Vietnam

Typhoon Damrey has killed at least 49 people in Vietnam, with more than a dozen missing, after striking Vietnam.

Some 19 people are still missing Monday, including nine who were working on a cargo ship that sank off the coast of the Khanh Hoa province.

About 116,000 homes were destroyed or damaged due to widespread flooding.

High tide peaked at 5.5 feet on Monday, with forecasters predicting the flooding to remain high, at around 5.4 feet until Tuesday.

Typhoon Damrey struck Vietnam on Sunday. Flooding could worsen due to heavy rain forecast for the region.
