Trade union Solidarity which defeated communism to help Belarus

It will be a few dozen tonnes of food products, said Piotr Duda, Chairman of the Solidarity Trade Union in Gdańsk, the movement’s birthplace.

A Solidarity Fund with Belarus has also been set up, to which the trade union has contributed PLN 1 million.

The Solidarity Trade Union, the first independent trade union to be formed in the communist block back in 1980, and which significant contributed to the fall of communism in Central Eastern Europe in 1989, has decided to send a humanitarian convoy to Belarus, where factory workers have gone out on strike against what they argue is a falsified presidential election result.
