The vessel named Nave Andromeda is known to have stowaways on board and was due to dock in Southampton earlier.

The BBC reported that the operation involved six helicopters and a Special Boat Service team, which is specially trained to deal with such incidents.

Richard Meade, editor of shipping news journal Lloyd's List, told the BBC earlier that seven stowaways were thought to be on board and it was believed they had become violent towards the crew.

Hampshire police had requested military assistance following the incident.

It is reported that the 228-meter tanker had been expected to dock in Southampton at 10:30 a.m. (1030 GMT) on Sunday.

The Isle of Wight, a county and the largest and second most populous island in England, is located in the English Channel. The island has resorts that have been holiday destinations since Victorian times.
