The search for a 24-year-old man who jumped off a ship heading to New Jersey ended Saturday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Accident The man jumped off the Royal Caribbean
The man jumped off the Royal Caribbean ship at 3:30 p.m. Friday when the cruise liner was 65 miles off Chincoteague, Va., said Petty Officer Andrew Kendrick, a spokesman for the Coast Guard.
The man's motive was not clear, Kendrick said. The ship was on its way back from the Bahamas and was set to dock in Bayonne , Kendrick said.
The U.S. Navy as well as a Coast Guard airplane, helicopter and cutter boat searched for the man.
Kendrick said there was little chance of the man's survival given the distance from the shore, as well as the cold temperature of the water. ■
