President Juan Manuel Santos has announced the discovery of a large gas field in the Colombian Caribbean, considered the biggest finding of that kind in the last 28 years.
Exploration The biggest finding in the last 28 years
Both companies confirmed the presence of a new gas province (the third one) in our country, the president said from the Presidential Palace.
He explained that the explorations in the zone defined as offshore continue with the participation of the Spanish company Repsol.
Two more wells will be drilled with different firms during the second half of the year, he said.
More than eight million Colombian families use gas in their homes, while about 550,000 vehicles depend on it as fuel.
The exploitation of the new deposit opens job opportunities for the inhabitants of the coastal towns, particularly Barranquilla, Santos said. ■
