Over 50 arrests in anti-mafia operations in Italy

Italian police authorities on Tuesday arrested more than 50 people in different regions of the country, during two operations against organized crime.

According to official information, about 31 people were arrested in Vibo Valentia, Reggio Calabria, Palermo, Rome Bologna, L'Acquila, Prato, Livorno, Alessandria, Brescia, Nuoro, Milan and Udine, in a raid against those associates to the 'Ndrangheta mafia in Calabria.'

Those arrested in the 'Replacement' operation, coordinated by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate in Catanzaro, regional capital of Calabria, are charged with the crimes of extortion, possession and illegal possession of explosives, injuries, fictitious adjudication of properties, traffic and distribution of narcotic substances, among others.

On the other hand, police officers of the Provincial Command of Naples captured 22 people accused of belonging to an international network dedicated to drug trafficking and retail drug distribution in the underground market.

These arrests add up to 30 people detained on Monday in the southern city of Caserta accused of belonging to an important local mafia clan.

The detainees were accused of crimes such as the association to commit a mafia crime for acts related to the illegal control of economic activities, manipulation of contracts and public services, vote buying and speculative reinvestments in business activities.
