Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center (DMC) said that Sri Lanka's northern districts faced a severe dry weather condition, affecting over 300,000 people.

In the Mullaitivu district 40,000 people had been affected while thousands of families residing in several other areas in the north also had been affected.
Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center Pradeep Kodippili said water bowsers had been set up in several of the affected areas to supply fresh water to the families.
The Meteorology Department in its latest weather updates said that temperatures would also rise as high as 36 degrees centigrade in areas such as Batticaloa in the east.
However, some rains were expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, in the south over the weekend. ■
