Mimura met with Defense Minister Taro Kono and asked him to demand that the United States Army suspend air drills at that base until the cause of the accident is identified and preventive measures are taken.

The governor told a press conference that the inert gas bomb fell on private lands near primary and secondary schools, and it could have caused a serious accident.

He noted that people in Aomori are deeply concerned about the accident, which has raised doubts about the security measures taken by the US Army.

Mimura asked the US Army to adopt exhaustive security controls.
