Hurricane Franklin makes landfall in MexicoStaff Writer | August 10, 2017
Hurricane Franklin made landfall on the central Gulf coast of Mexico as a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Weather 85 mph winds
Franklin hit the area near Veracruz with winds of up to 85 mph. There have not been reports of serious damage as of 3 a.m. EDT. But local governments are taking precautions and schools will be closed in the area.
Reports indicate that Franklin will deteriorate rapidly after making landfall, but the region will experience heavy rains and potential flash floods.
Forecasters have said a high pressure system north of the affected region will likely keep the impact of the storm away from the United States.
Franklin is the first Atlantic hurricane of the 2017 season. ■
