Fuel tanker catches fire at eastern Indian airport

A major fire tragedy was averted at the international airport in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata Wednesday after a fuel tanker went up in flames at the old apron where planes are refuelled, officials said.

There have been no casualties or any damage to any aircraft at the apron. "The operations at the busy Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport are also not affected," a senior fire official said.

"The fire engulfed the fuel tanker parked in front of the apron at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in minutes. Fire tenders have been pressed into service to contain the flames," he said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official added.
