The sentencing came after Iswaran pleaded guilty on September 24 to charges of obtaining valuable items as a public servant and obstructing the course of justice.

He was found obtaining gifts worth over 400,000 Singapore dollars (309,000 U.S. dollars).

Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau investigated Iswaran last July and he resigned as the transport minister in January.
