“There was a thermal reaction in our slag pools, which produced a roar that was perceived by the city, without causing harm to people,” the company’s Mexican unit said in a tweet.

Video footage published Mexican media showed an explosion and large flames reportedly at the site.

In a statement, the agency reported that as a result of a report to the 911 emergency number, it was alerted about the presence of fumaroles and fire inside the steel company, so that personnel of the Michoacán Police in coordination with Municipal Civil Protection arrived at the place.
