The Commission for the Financial Market (CMF) of Chile confirmed the leak of data from 41,593 credit and debit cards from banking and non-banking institutions that operate in the Redbanc network.

The leak affected clients from 13 institutions, and 82 cases of fraud were initially reported, so the affected entities blocked the cards.

The CMF informed that it is monitoring the situation and supervising the adoption of all measures to protect the clients.

Redbanc assured that the incident was reported during a police investigation with which that institution was collaborating.

The inquiry showed that Redbanc was the victim of non-authorized extractions of partial information on a number of cards, some of which had been used to carry out fraudulent operations.

It is a crime under investigation by the Carabineers and the Prosecutor's Office, the CMF noted.
