Chemical plant explosion in Barcelona kills one and injures 13

One person has died and 13 injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in Barcelona, Spain.

The blast occurred around 14:00 local time two days ago at a chemical plant belonging to Spanish chemical company Proquibasa in La Verneda, a neighbourhood in the north of the city.

Firefighters are searching for one person who is still missing following the blast.

Local emergency services reported on social media that they were responding to an incident at the chemical plant.

The fire service is trying to determine which chemical products were involved in the explosion.

A spokesperson for the local government said there was no health risk to local residents.

The Barcelona Fire Department said that 11 fire teams responded to the incident.

Fire officials have not ruled out a higher death toll and more injuries.
