This Wednesday and Thursday, a union of train drivers is organizing a 48-hour strike. SNCB has already worked out the alternative train service on the basis of train drivers who have indicated that they will work.
The trains will run throughout the country. No province is affected by a closure of the rail network. In total, about half of the trains will be able to run:
• 1 IC train (connecting the main cities of the country) out of 2
• 1 S/L train (suburban and omnibus service) out of 2
• A very limited number of P trains (morning and evening rush hours) will run
The rail network is closed in the provinces of Namur, with the exception of the Walloon backbone, Luxembourg and in part of Walloon Brabant due to the unavailability of staff in the Infrabel Namur signal box.
Alternate train service is based on staff who have indicated they will be working.
The 24-hour strike by the union common front concerns all the operational staff essential to the running of the trains: drivers, train attendants and Infrabel signal box staff.
The train drivers' union strike on Wednesday and Thursday only concerns train drivers. ■
