"At least 35 fishermen were missing after the boats sank yesterday," Khalilur Rahman, a senior police official, told Xinhua from a station at Kuakata in southern Patuakhali district, 204 km away from the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.

He said rescue efforts are still ongoing.

Stormy winds have caused the fishing boats to capsize along the coast of Kuakata on Thursday, he said.

Five fishermen of the capsized boats reportedly managed to return ashore Friday and narrated about the accidents.

As the sea was turbulent, the survivors said nearby vessels could not rescue them.

Rough weather still hampers search and rescue efforts on Friday, said the official.
