Europe   Amsterdam beat Milan
Amsterdam beat the Italian contender of Milan in a third round of voting by the remaining 27 EU member states.

"I congratulate Amsterdam for winning the vote to host EMA!" the German Minister for European Affairs Michael Roth, who was present at the vote, posted on Twitter afterwards.

"It is an excellent choice, guaranteeing continuity in securing safe medicinal products for European consumers."

The EMA has some 900 staff who are responsible for the evaluation, supervision and monitoring of medicines for humans and animals within the bloc.

Hosting an EU agency is considered an economic and political boon for member states.
