5.8 earthquake strikes Colombia, houses damaged

An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale shook Colombian territory, with no deaths or injuries reported but some damage to houses.

Earthquake   The earthquake is the fifth most intense in Santander in the last 20 years
The earthquake had its epicenter in the municipality of Mesa de los Santos, in Santander department, at a depth of 150 kilometers, reported the Colombian Geological Service.

Jaime Arenas, mayor of the municipality, said that in the village of El Tabacan there are some houses with cracked walls.

The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management is monitoring with the support of departmental and municipal councils to locate possible damages.

The earthquake is the fifth most intense in Santander in the last 20 years and was felt strongly in Bucaramanga, the department´s capital, as well as in Cucuta and Medellin.
