If you must run without preparation there's no time to think about your own goals and what you want to achieve. That in turn means that the other side will most probably get what they want and you'll get nothing.
You can't think about your best offer, the line you won't cross, about your strategy, their strategy... while at the same time actively participating in negotiations.
The Step No2: Forget their goals.
I mean, who cares, right? You have your own business to do, let the other think about their part.
Compromise? What compromise? You don't want compromise, you have your goals and don't care about other side's wishes and abilities to align their expectations with yours. It they want to do business with you, someone else will.
Step No3: Don't care about the competition.
It's between you and them, eye to eye, mano a mano, who cares what the competition has in mind. You can't live their life and mind their business, can you? So, who cares, take care about your own skin.
Step No4: Don't think about profit and loss.
It's important make a deal, any deal, and you'll think about the money later. In fact, there are other people in your company who are in charge for that, so forget about it, who cares about those little details.
And a bonus tip: Don't think about strategy.
