A solar plane Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) is set to make a non-stop trip around the world next year. The flight will be the first of its kind for a solar aircraft and will lift off from Abu Dhabi next march.

The project is a collaboration between Solar Impulse and Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company Masdar.

The plan will have no in-flight refueling and will continuously refuel using only solar power, according to the Saudi Gazette. Bertrand Piccard, chairman of the Si2 says that the partnership with Abu Dhabi and Masdar has been fitting for the project:

"It's fitting that we're departing from Abu Dhabi, as the emirate is a true energy leader committed to realizing a cleaner tomorrow. Through initiatives like Masdar, Abu Dhabi is demonstrating a real commitment to diversifying the global energy mix with clean, reliable renewable energy," Piccard says in an official statement.

The plane will be piloted by Si2 co-founder André Borschberg and will continue training flights through the end of the year as they finalize inflight systems, the Gazette reports.
