Bulgaria and Bangladesh report Wuhan coronavirus cases, Colombia launches app, Iran halts Mehran

Bulgaria yesterday confirmed four Wuhan coronavirus cases out of 70 people tested, the first such confirmed cases in the country.

A 27-year-old who was treated at the Lung Diseases Hospital in the central Gabrovo province and 61-year-old who had contact with the patient both tested positive for Wuhan coronavirus, according to Bulgarian health officials.

In addition, a 75-year-old woman who was treated for respiratory diseases and a female medical staffer at in the city hospital in the northern Pleven province were also diagnosed.

Bangladesh announced the first confirmed coronavirus cases in the country after three people tested positive for the infectious virus in the capital Dhaka on Sunday.

Dr. A. S. M. Alamgir, the top science officer at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), told Anadolu Agency that three people were infected with Wuhan coronavirus.

IEDCR Director Meerjady Sabrina Flora said at a press conference in Dhaka that two men and a woman tested positive for Wuhan coronavirus and that the three were admitted to a hospital.

The patients, aged between 20 and 35, are under treatment and their conditions are stable, she added, without naming the facility and their identities on security grounds.

Two of the infected are related and recently returning from Italy, said Flora.

Meanwhile, two others have been quarantined after coming in contact with the patients, she added, urging calm and compliance with WHO guidelines and discouraging public gatherings.

Flora ruled out closing educational institutions at the moment.

Colombian President Ivan Duque announced the launch of an application for mobile devices Sunday that will help centralize information related to the spread, prevention and treatment of the novel coronavirus in the country.

After meeting with health authorities and mobile phone operators, Duque said at a press conference that many companies are working with the government to convey information on the measures being adopted to prepare for and prevent the spread of the virus.

"The CoronApp-Colombia application will contain preventive measures and will be free for everyone to download,” he said. “We have the support of the main telecom companies so that it does not affect the data plans of Colombians.”

The application, which is available for Android and iOS, allows users to register friends or family members to report news about their health status and receive news and prevention advice. It also contains various phone numbers people can reach out to in case of an emergency.

The app will also be promoted through text messages in which individuals will find advice about hygiene measures to prevent the virus.

Managing Director of Ilam Customs said based on Iraq declaration and in line with preventing the outbreak of Wuhan coronavirus, Mehran Border activities will be canceled on Sunday for one week.

Speaking to IRNA, Roohollah Gholami said the measures will be taken in line with preventing coronavirus outbreak.

He added that all stalls and administrative constructions have also been disinfected.

Head of the Iran's Health Ministry's public relations office Kianoush Jahanpour said on Saturday that Wuhan coronavirus death toll mounted to 145 in the country.

He went on to say that 5,823 people have been affected by the virus so far.

He pointed out that 1,669 people have recovered from the coronavirus.
