February’s deceleration reflected slower growth in manufacturing output and mining and quarrying production, along with a notable contraction in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.

Sequential data revealed that industrial production contracted 3.5% over the previous month in February, an improvement from January’s 13.9% fall.

Meanwhile, the trend pointed up and annual average growth in industrial output came in at 0.8% in February (January: +0.3%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants project that industrial output will grow 3.0% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2019, panelists expect industrial production to rise 3.2%.
