UK unemployment barely changed in June but wages increased, according to official figures, but the claimant count unexpectedly fell in July.

UK average weekly earnings grew 2.4%, though again the market expected the improvement from the 2.3% reading in May.
The July claimant count, however, fell by 8,600 to a rate of 2.2%. The consensus estimate had been for a 9,500 rise after the previous month's 0.4k increase. ■
