Swiss producer and import prices fall at slower pace

Swiss producer and import prices continued to fall in July, but the pace of decline slowed from prior year, the Federal Statistical Office reported.

Producer and import prices decreased 0.8 percent year-on-year in July, slightly slower than the 1 percent decline seen in June. The index has been falling since October 2013. Prices were expected to fall 0.9 percent.

On a monthly basis, producer and import prices decreased 0.1 percent offsetting June's 0.1 percent increase. This was the first fall in five months. Economists had forecast a 0.2 percent drop for July.

Producer prices dropped 0.1 percent from June and decreased 0.5 percent from same period of last year. Likewise, import prices slid 0.1 percent on month and by 1.5 percent on a yearly basis.
