The inflation rate in Sudan rose to 53.13 percent in August compared with 52.59 percent in July, Sudan's Central Statistics Bureau said.

The bureau described the rise as "slight" and attributed it to the price increase in the transport and home sectors.

It further pointed out that the food and drinks field contributes 61.88 percent of the general inflation rise due to the hike in the prices of some commodities such as meat.

From January to May, the inflation rates remained stable at around 44 percent.

Sudan has been suffering a dire economic crisis since the secession of South Sudan in 2011, which caused a loss of 75 percent of oil revenues.
