Spain inflation accelerates more than forecast

Spain's consumer price inflation accelerated at a faster-than-expected pace in April, after easing in the previous month, preliminary figures from the statistical office INE showed.

The consumer price index climbed 2.6% year-over-year in April, faster than the 2.3% gain in March. Economists had expected the inflation to accelerate to 2.5%.

Similarly, EU measure of inflation came in at 2.6% in April, up from 2.1% in March and above the 2.3% rise expected by economists.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.0% in April, just above the 0.9% expected increase. The harmonized index of consumer prices increased 0.9% in April, faster than the 0.7% rise economists had forecast.
