Retail sales rose 8.6% from the same month a year earlier in September, accelerating from August’s 7.6% increase.
September’s acceleration once again contributed to an uptick in the annual trend, with average annual growth in retail sales increasing from 7.3% in August to 7.6% in September—marking the highest reading in nearly five years.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.8% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2019, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.5%. ■
