Philippines foreign direct investment largest in 6 months

Net foreign direct investment into the Philippines grew 33.7 percent to $672 million in October of 2019 from $502 million a year earlier, the largest amount since April last year.

Meanwhile, net equity capital investments dropped 40.8 percent year-on-year to $58 million, as equity capital placements came mostly the United States, South Korea, and Japan; being channeled mainly real estate, financial and insurance and manufacturing industries.

Meantime, reinvestment of earnings increased 12.7 percent to $79 million from USD 71 million in the corresponding month of the previous year.

Year-to-date, net FDI inflows totaled $5.8 billion, down 32.8 percent from $8.6 billion a year earlier.

Foreign Direct Investment in Philippines averaged $372.11 million from 2005 until 2019, reaching an all time high of $2256 million in April of 2016 and a record low of -$396 million in June of 2007.
