Mexican unemployment rate declined to 4 percent in August of 2016, compared to 4.7 percent a year ago and in line with market expectations.

Compared to a year ago, the jobless rate for women fell by 0.66 p.p. to 4.29 percent and for men declined by 0.68 p.p. to 3.83 percent. Among unemployed people, 15.4 percent had not completed secondary education, and 84.5 percent had a higher education.
The labour force participation rate went down to 60.2 percent from 60.3 percent in August 2015.
Among employed people, 67.7 percent operated as a subordinate worker, 22.9 percent worked independently or on their own without hiring employees, 5.1 percent worked in business or in family plots, contributing directly to production processes without monetary compensation, and finally, 4.3 percent were employers. ■
