Jobless claims in France up 0.6 percent in May

At the end of May, unemployment in France went up by 0.6 percent month on month, erasing a 1.0-percent fall reported a month earlier, the French labor ministry said.

Last month, 22,300 additional job seekers entered the domestic job market, making the total number of jobless close to 3.5 million in the French mainland, the ministry added.

On yearly basis, the number of people without work was down 0.8 percent, according to official figures.

Centrist French President Emmanuel Macron inherited a high jobless rate when he took over the position in May.

He aims to lower joblessness rate to 7.0 percent by 2022 from the current 9.7 percent.
