Ireland jobless rate remains stable in August

Ireland's unemployment rate held steady in August, after falling in the previous month, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 8.3 percent in August, the same rate as in July. In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 9.1 percent.

The number of unemployed people decreased to 181,600 in August from 183,300 in the preceding month. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 197,000.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, fell to 17.1 percent in August from 17.7 percent a month earlier.
