Greece trade deficit shrinks 1.7%

Commercial transactions' trade balance posted a deficit of 1.7 billion euros in August, down 1.7%, y-o-y, the statistics office or ELSTAT said.

Excluding the impact of oil products and ships, the commercial trade deficit declined 10%.

Imports fell 5% y-o-y, while excluding oil products and ships, imports were down 3%.

Also, exports declined 7% but after the impact of oil and ships, exports were up 2% y-o-y in July.

In the January-August period, the trade balance showed a deficit of 14.6 billion euros, up 8% y-o-y.

Excluding oil products and ships, the deficit expanded 7%.
