Greece clears 3.85bn euros in state arrears in 2016

Greece spent 3.85 billion euros in 2016 for the clearance of government’s arrears to third parties, according to the central bank.

At the end of November repayment of arrears had amounted to 3.35 billion euros.

In 2016, the central government cash balance recorded a deficit of 3.6 billion euros, compared to a deficit of 3.4 billion euros in 2015.

Revenues were 48.9 billion euros, while spending stood at 51.1 billion euros. The primary position was positive by 1.9 billion euros versus 3.5 billion euros in the respective period of 2015.

In December alone, central government cash balance recorded a deficit of 2.1 million euros compared to a deficit of 1.5 billion euros in the respective month of 2015.

The primary cash position was negative by 1.6 billion euros versus 990 million euros in deficit in December 2015.

Revenues amounted to 5.4 billion euros in December versus 5.7 billion euros in the corresponding month of 2015, while spending stood at 6.3 billion euros compared to 5.8 billion euros last year.
