Germany's producer price inflation at 5-month high

Germany's producer prices increased at the fastest pace in five months in September, data from Destatis showed Friday.

Producer price inflation rose more-than-expected to 3.1% in September from 2.6% in August. This was the fastest increase since April, when prices advanced 3.4%. Economists had forecast a 2.9% rise for September.

Prices of non-durable consumer goods climbed 3.4% and prices of intermediate goods by 3.6%.

Energy prices advanced 4.6% and prices of durable consumer goods and capital goods increased each by 1.1%.

Excluding energy, producer prices climbed 2.6% in September.

Month-on-month, producer price inflation rose slightly to 0.3% from 0.2% in August. Prices were expected to gain 0.1%.
