Total employment in market sectors, which excludes government employment and a few other categories, stood at 15.97 million at the end of the first quarter, up by 107,000 compared to a year ago, Insee said.

This growth has come almost exclusively in "tertiary" sectors separate from industry and construction, where employment continues to suffer.
