French consumer spending beats expectations

French consumer spending rose faster than expected in November as car sales jumped and households continued to raise spending on energy.

Consumer spending in the eurozone's second largest economy rose 0.4% on month and 3.3% on year, statistics agency Insee said.

The second month of rising consumer spending confirms the French economy is on a firmer footing after a weak patch over the summer.
