The EU28 seasonally adjusted current account of the balance of payments recorded a surplus of €10.5 bn in May 2016.
Europe The surplus of the services account increased
In May 2016, compared with April 2016, based on seasonally adjusted data, the surplus of the goods account decreased (+€11.1 bn compared with +€13.2 bn) and the deficit of the primary income account increased (-€4.4 bn compared with -€2.7 bn).
The surplus of the services account grew (+€10.6 bn compared with +€9.8 bn) and the deficit of the secondary income account fell (-€6.8 bn compared with -€7.4 bn).
The 12-month cumulated current account for the period ending in May 2016 recorded a surplus of €142.1 bn, compared with €127.0 bn for the 12 months to May 2015.
The surplus of the goods account for the same period increased (+€129.5 bn compared with +€51.5 bn), while the surplus of the services account fell (+€137.2 bn compared with +€149.4 bn).
The deficit of the secondary income account increased (-€80.3 bn compared with -€76.7 bn) and the surplus of the primary income account moved into deficit (-€44.4 bn compared with +€2.9 bn). ■
