China services trade deficit $20.6 billion in December

China's trade deficit in services widened to $20.6 billion in December from $18.3 billion in November, the foreign exchange regulator said.

The deficit was largely due to a $17.7 billion gulf in tourist spending, data from the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) showed. When Chinese go abroad, they splurge more than do foreign visitors travelling in China.

For all of 2017, China's services trade deficit stood at $255.4 billion, compared with gap of $234.8 billion for January-November.
