Bulgarian trade with EU in January 2019 grew 2.2%

Europe   Bulgarian exports to the EU grew 2.2% in comparison with the same month

In January 2019 Bulgarian exports to the EU grew 2.2% in comparison with the same month of 2018 and amounted to 3 164.6 Million BGN.


Main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece, France and the Netherlands which accounted for 66.4% of the exports to the EU Member States.

In January 2019 in comparison to the corresponding month of the previous year the largest growths in the exports of Bulgaria to the EU distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification were recorded in the sections ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (117.4%) and ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (36.5%). The most notable fall was recorded in the section ‘Animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (45.0%).

Bulgarian imports from the EU in January 2019 decreased 7.4% compared to same month of 2018 and reached 2 990.6 Million BGN at CIF prices.

The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and Hungary.

In January 2019 compared to the corresponding month of the previous year the largest growth in imports from the EU distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification was reported in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (48.1%) while the most notable fall was observed in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (62.8%).

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU in January 2019 was positive and added up to 174.0 Million BGN.

At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) the trade balance was also positive and amounted to 356.9 Million BGN.

In the period January - February 2019 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased 15.0% in comparison with the same period of the previous year and added up to 2 874.5 Million BGN.

Main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, China, the United States, Serbia, Egypt and the Russian Federation which accounted for 51.3% of the exports to non EU countries.

In February 2019 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased 23.0% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1 480.3 Million BGN.
