Brazil factory activity decline continues in August

Brazil's manufacturing activity continued to decrease in August, extending deteriorating into a nineteenth month, on the back of new order decline, survey data from IHS Markit.

The purchasing managers' index for the manufacturing sector fell to 45.7 from 46 in July. A score below 50 suggests contraction in the sector.

Both domestic and foreign orders declined, but production fell at a slower pace. Firms continued to shed jobs. Cost pressures increased further and consequently, output charges were raised.
