Output rose at the fastest rate in fifteen-and-a-half years. Software & services placed second thanks to the strongest increase in activity since September 2015.

With food, autos and hi-tech equipment also in the top ten, consumer goods and technology were the fastest-growing of seven broad groups monitored in March.

A sharp rise in new orders helped to sustain the dominance of beverages among the detailed sectors. Growth of new business was the quickest since early-2008. As well as topping the rankings in both of the past two months, beverages led the way on average in Q1 2016 and across 2015 as a whole.

Meanwhile, food and banks made the greatest gains in terms of league position in March. Both surged 14 places to third and fourth respectively.

Other financials staged a recovery having been bottom-ranked in February, climbing 12 places to tenth on the back of a renewed expansion in activity.
