Austrian unemployment decreases 2.4 percent in July

The Austrian unemployment rate has seen a continued drop in July, decreasing 2.4 percent or 9,293 people year-on-year down to 370,386 jobless persons.

The Public Employment Service Austria (AMS) said the drop in jobless numbers was observed in almost all employment sectors, with notable drops seen in construction (down 8.9 percent), goods production (down 7.9 percent), and the tourism industry (down 7 percent).

Employment improvement has been seen in both Austrian and foreign nationals, whoes jobless numbers down 4.8 percent and 3.1 percent respectively.

The youth unemployment situation also continued its positive turnaround, down 13.4 percent. And the current 8.4 percent unemployment puts it at about half the European average.

The AMS said positive economic developments in the country are also having a positive impact on the number of available jobs.

The number it has registered through its own employment service now is over 65,000, a significant 48 percent increase over July of last year.
