Speaking to reporters on his way to a meeting at the company’s Seocho headquarters, Mr. Hoon said that Samsung Electronics' second-quarter earnings are "not that good." He didn't provide any numbers but that was enough for the company's shares, traded in Korea, to fall 1.9 percent at the end of trading on Wednesday.

Samsung announced last month that it sold 11 million Galaxy S5 smarphones in its first month, which is better than the 10 million Galaxy S4 units it sold during the same period last year. Samsung has reported two consecutive quarters of profit decline.
