Kingfisher Q2 sales increased 4.8%

Kingfisher reported a 4.8% rise in total sales for the second quarter and said sales across all its major businesses had been good.

Like-for-like sales, for stores that have been open for more than a year, increased 3.5% in constant currencies for the 10 weeks to July 11.

The home-improvement retail group, which owns B&Q, Screwfix and other DIY stores, said B&Q like-for-like sales of outdoor and seasonal products rose 1.3%. Showroom sales rose 2.6% with sales of indoor products, excluding showroom, up 5.1%.

Screwfix opened 11 outlets during the second quarter, taking the total to 412.

Like-for-like sales of seasonal products at French DIY chain Castorama rose 8.3%, with sales of non-seasonal products broadly flat, while Brico Depot continued to be affected by a weak house-building market.

Like-for-like sales of seasonal products in Poland increased 16.5% with sales of non-seasonal products up 2.9%.
