The restaurant chain joins a number of others including Starbucks, McDonald's, and Panera Bread that have said it too will go cage-free. Most of those companies have laid out plans that will take at least a few years to make the transition.

Taco Bell also said that it will deliver on its goal to remove artificial colors, articifial flavors, added trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, and unsustainable palm oil from its menu by the beginning of 2016.

The company said it will also introduce aspartame-free diet Pepsi products by early 2016 and aims to remove additives and preservatives from food where possible by the end of 2017.
